super-hear Privacy Policy
The short version: your audio never leaves your phone.

This is a plain-English explanation of what super-hear does with your data. The short version: your audio never leaves your phone. QnSub does not run a server for this app, does not have an account system, and does not ship analytics or advertising SDKs.
What we collect
Nothing. We have no servers that receive your data, and the app contains no analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking SDKs. We cannot see how you use the app.
What super-hear stores on your device
To do its job, the app processes and persists the following locally on your iPhone. It is never uploaded to us or anyone else:
- Live microphone audio is processed in real-time for amplification and is not persisted unless you tap the red Record button.
- Recordings (audio
.m4aand optional visualizer.mov) are saved to your app's private Documents folder. They are accessible only to you, inside the app, until you share them. - Transcripts are generated by Apple's on-device Speech recognition with the
requiresOnDeviceRecognitionflag enabled. Audio is never sent to Apple's servers for this purpose. - Personal EQ profile from the guided tone setup is stored locally as a small JSON file.
- App settings — listening mode, EQ, noise reduction, boost level, microphone source, Beat Detect method, detector thresholds, and per-mode mute state — are stored in iOS UserDefaults.
iCloud Backup
If you have iCloud Backup enabled on your iPhone (Settings → [your name] → iCloud → iCloud Backup), iOS automatically backs up the app's settings (UserDefaults) and its Documents folder (recordings) to your iCloud account. This is handled by Apple, not by super-hear. The data flows between your device and your iCloud account directly; we never see it. You can disable iCloud Backup for super-hear specifically in the same Settings menu.
Sharing recordings
When you tap the share button on a saved recording, iOS's share sheet appears. You choose where the file goes — Messages, Mail, AirDrop, Files, a third-party app, etc. Once you share a file outside super-hear, its handling is governed by the receiving service's privacy policy, not ours.
Permissions we request
- Microphone — required for the core amplification feature. Without it, the app cannot run.
- Speech Recognition — optional. If you decline, recordings still work; you just won't get transcripts.
You can revoke either permission at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security.
No tracking, no advertising
super-hear contains no third-party SDKs: no analytics, no ad networks, no attribution frameworks, no crash reporters, no marketing tools. Nothing tracks you within the app.
What we do not do
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
- We do not use analytics SDKs (no Google Analytics, Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude, etc.).
- We do not use advertising SDKs.
- We do not sell or share your data with anyone.
- We do not run a server that collects your data.
- We do not require you to create an account.
Deleting your data
You are always in control:
- Recordings — swipe-to-delete inside the Recordings library removes both the audio and any companion video file.
- Personal EQ profile and settings — deleting super-hear from your iPhone removes them from the device. If iCloud Backup is enabled, the backed-up copy in your iCloud account follows Apple's standard backup retention; you can remove it directly from your iCloud storage if you wish.
Security
Because your data never leaves your device, it is protected by your device's own security model. The app's Documents folder is sandboxed and accessible only to super-hear.
Children
super-hear does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. There are no accounts, no chat, no user-generated content shared with others, no ads, and no third-party SDKs.
Changes to this policy
If our privacy practices change, we will update this page with a new effective date. The fundamental "your audio stays on your device" promise is not something we plan to change.
