Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions we hear most often.

Do I need an account to use KeyStrike?

No. KeyStrike has no account system and no server. Open the app and play — everything is stored locally on your Mac.

Does KeyStrike work offline?

Yes. KeyStrike never makes a network request. Every game mode, tutorial, stat, and setting works without internet.

What macOS version is required?

macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. KeyStrike uses modern SwiftUI APIs that aren't available on earlier macOS versions.

Will KeyStrike run on my Intel Mac?

Yes, as long as it's running macOS 14 or later. KeyStrike is shipped as a universal binary — it runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

How do I change the theme or default difficulty?

Open Settings from the sidebar. You can switch between four themes (Hybrid, Minimal, Cartoony, Retro Arcade), toggle key-click style and music, change the font (system or dyslexia-friendly), and set your default difficulty (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced).

How do I reset my stats?

Open Settings → Reset Stats. You'll be asked to confirm — once confirmed, every game result and personal best is wiped. There is no undo.

Where are my stats stored?

Inside KeyStrike's sandbox container at ~/Library/Containers/com.choloasis.keystrike/Data/Library/Application Support/Keystrike/stats.json. iCloud backup will include it as part of your Mac's regular backup. There is nothing on a server to back up — everything is on your Mac.

Some tutorials use system shortcuts — will they fire the real macOS feature too?

For the tutorials that teach app-level shortcuts (⌘C, ⌘V, ⌘Z, ⌘S, ⌘F), KeyStrike intercepts the keystroke so the system Save/Find/etc. dialog doesn't appear over the lesson. Tutorials that would conflict with system-level shortcuts (Spotlight, App Switcher, Screenshot) aren't included precisely because the OS handles those first.

Is KeyStrike safe for kids?

Yes. KeyStrike has no accounts, no chat, no network, no ads, and no analytics. Word lists are curated and kid-safe. The one mode that uses real code (Code Snippets) is tagged as advanced and uses ordinary public-domain code samples.

How do I delete everything?

Drag KeyStrike from your Applications folder to the Trash. macOS removes the app's sandbox container along with the app, taking every stat and setting with it. Because there's no server, there is nothing else to delete.

I want a refund.

App Store purchases are handled by Apple, not by us. Request a refund through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Where can I read the privacy policy?

The full policy is at /keystrike/privacy. Short version: everything stays on your Mac — no accounts, no analytics, no ads, no server.
