Common questions

What does Contexto require?

Contexto is built for iPhone on iOS 26 or later. Recording requires microphone access, and transcription requires Speech Recognition access. Local AI features require a device and language supported by Apple Intelligence; recording, on-device transcription, search, manual actions, and export remain useful when local AI is unavailable.

Why is transcription unavailable or incomplete?

Confirm that Microphone and Speech Recognition are allowed in iOS Settings. Use a supported transcription language, speak near the phone, reduce background noise, and keep enough free storage for the recording. Contexto preserves the audio so supported recordings can be transcribed again.

What is the difference between Local AI and Cloud AI?

Local AI uses Apple Intelligence on the iPhone and does not send note text to QnSub or OpenAI. Cloud AI is optional and off by default. When enabled, the note text and context needed for the requested result are sent through Contexto's Cloudflare service to OpenAI and use prepaid AI-pack allowance.

Are my recordings uploaded?

No. Contexto stores recordings in the app's protected container and transcribes them on device. Optional Cloud AI sends relevant text, never the recording audio.

How does photo review work?

Contexto reads visible text on device first and lets you correct it. Nothing is uploaded just because you selected a photo. When you tap Review photo with Cloud AI enabled, a resized, re-encoded JPEG, the checked text, review mode, and optional goal are sent through Contexto to OpenAI and use AI-pack allowance.

How do AI packs work?

AI packs are one-time App Store purchases, not subscriptions. They add prepaid Cloud AI allowance to the secure installation identity on this device. Local AI, recording, on-device transcription, search, and manual actions do not consume the pack. Apple shows the final localized price before purchase.

Why did a failed Cloud AI request use allowance?

Contexto reserves the maximum allowance you approve before a request starts and settles it from verified model usage after completion. A request that is rejected before generation is refunded. An interrupted or incomplete request can retain some or all of the reservation when upstream usage may already have occurred.

How do I add an action to Reminders or Calendar?

Contexto proposes an action first. Open it, review the details, and explicitly confirm the destination. Reminders or Calendar permission is requested only when you choose to use that integration.

How do I export or delete my information?

Export a note or the full library as supported Markdown, text, JSON, PDF, or audio files. Delete individual notes to remove their recording, transcript, and derived output. Reset to factory settings removes local notes, recordings, memories, attachments, and settings, while preserving the server-side AI-pack balance tied to the installation credential.
