Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for installing, permissions, updates, license use, and privacy.
What macOS version is required?
Workbench requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later and runs on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
How do I install Workbench?
Download the zip from Gumroad, unzip it, move Workbench.app to your Applications folder, then open the app.
macOS blocked the app from opening. What should I do?
Make sure you downloaded the latest notarized build from Gumroad. If macOS still blocks launch, open System Settings and check Privacy & Security for the latest Gatekeeper message.
Does Workbench replace the built-in macOS file browser?
No. The built-in macOS file browser stays on your Mac. Workbench adds a focused workspace for heavier file tasks such as dual-pane browsing, media preview, notes, snippets, cleanup, and disk analysis.
Why does Workbench ask for Screen Recording or Microphone permission?
Screen Recording is optional and only needed for screenshot or recording tools. Microphone is optional and only needed for voice recording, voice notes, and narrated recordings. You can change both permissions in macOS System Settings.
Does Workbench upload my files?
No. Workbench works locally on your Mac. It does not include analytics, cloud sync, advertising SDKs, or background uploads.
Can I use one purchase on multiple Macs?
Yes. One Workbench purchase covers personal or family use within one household on up to 5 Macs. The household license is not for company-wide sharing, resale, or public redistribution.
How do updates work?
Updates are delivered through Gumroad. Customers can download the newest build from their Gumroad library after each release.
Where can I read the privacy policy?
The full policy is available at /workbench/privacy.
