Orisonly Privacy Policy
The short version: everything stays on your iPhone.
Effective: 2026-05-20
App: Orisonly (com.orisonly.app)

This is a plain-English explanation of what Orisonly does with your data. The short version: everything stays on your iPhone. QnSub Tech does not run a server, does not have an account system, and does not ship analytics or advertising SDKs.
What Orisonly stores
All of the following is stored locally on your device using Apple's UserDefaults and bundled JSON files:
- Your preferences — tradition, language, the iOS voice you picked for narration, daily reminder on/off, reminder time, whether the "robotic voice" tip has been dismissed for the session, and other UI flags.
- Saved prayers — any prayer you bookmarked from the player. Saved entries store the prayer's id, title, text, style, situation name, category, the voice identifier you used, and the timestamp you saved it. Nothing leaves the device.
- Prayer library — the full text of every prayer (over 2,000 main library prayers plus 4,500 Quick Random Prayer pieces) ships inside the app as static JSON. No network call is made to fetch a prayer text.
- Bundled AI Voice narration — hundreds of prayers ship with pre-rendered MP3 files inside the app bundle. They play locally; nothing is streamed.
How prayers are read aloud
Orisonly narrates prayers in two ways. Both happen entirely on your device:
- AI Voice — when a bundled MP3 exists for the prayer + chosen voice, the app plays that file locally with
AVAudioPlayer. The audio was generated by QnSub Tech ahead of time and shipped inside the app; the app never contacts an AI provider at runtime. - On-device voice — when no bundled MP3 exists, Orisonly uses Apple's
AVSpeechSynthesizerwith the iOS voice you chose in Settings. This is Apple's text-to-speech, running on your phone. The text never leaves the device.
iOS Settings → Accessibility → Read & Speak → Voices
iOS ships only basic "Compact" voices by default. The Enhanced and Premium English voices are free downloads from Settings → Accessibility → Read & Speak → Voices. Orisonly reads from AVSpeechSynthesisVoice.speechVoices() to list every English voice already installed on your device and uses the one you pick. It never downloads voices on your behalf and never reports your voice list anywhere.
Daily reminder notifications
If you turn on the daily prayer reminder, Orisonly schedules a local UNUserNotificationCenter notification at the hour you choose. The schedule lives on your phone; no server is involved. You can revoke notification permission at any time in iOS Settings → Notifications → Orisonly.
Screen recording (Start + Record)
The Quick Random Prayer screen and the Traditional Prayer screens offer a "Start + Record" / "Record" button. When you tap it:
- Orisonly calls Apple's ReplayKit
RPScreenRecorder. iOS shows its own "Allow Recording" dialog the first time. - If you approve, ReplayKit captures the screen and the app's audio (no microphone, no camera) while the prayer plays.
- When the prayer ends, Orisonly auto-stops the recorder. ReplayKit writes the MP4 to the app's temporary directory on your device.
- Orisonly then saves that one video to your Photos library using Apple's "add-only" permission and shows an Open In Photos button. From Photos you can keep it or share it however you like — Messages, Mail, AirDrop, Instagram, TikTok, etc.
- The temporary copy stays in the iOS temp directory until iOS purges it. Nothing is sent off-device by Orisonly.
Photos library (add only)
After a recording finishes, Orisonly requests Apple's "add-only" Photos permission (NSPhotoLibraryAddUsageDescription) and saves the one video you just recorded. It never reads your existing photos or videos.
Audio session
Orisonly uses Apple's AVAudioSession in the .playback category with .spokenAudio mode while a prayer plays, and a separate audio engine for the optional piano-accompaniment toggle. All audio is generated or played on-device.
What we do not do
- We do not require you to create an account.
- We do not use analytics SDKs (no Google Analytics, no Mixpanel, no Firebase, no Amplitude, etc.).
- We do not use advertising SDKs or any third-party SDKs that collect data.
- We do not have a server collecting your data — there is no Orisonly server.
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
- We do not sell or share your data with anyone.
- We do not contact an AI provider while you pray — the AI Voice MP3s are bundled.
- We do not upload your saved prayers, your recordings, or your reminder schedule.
Sharing your data, on purpose
The only time data leaves your device is when you initiate it:
- Share prayer text — the toolbar share button hands the prayer's title + text to iOS's share sheet so you can paste it into Messages, Mail, Notes, etc. Orisonly doesn't transmit it itself.
- Recording saved to Photos — when a recording finishes, Apple's Photos framework writes the one video to your library. Any further sharing happens from Photos, on your terms.
Optional support purchase
Settings includes an optional "Support Orisonly" purchase that unlocks a small thank-you page. The purchase is handled by Apple's StoreKit — no payment information ever touches QnSub Tech. The unlocked state is stored locally on your device.
Deleting your data
Because everything is local, uninstalling Orisonly deletes everything. iOS will remove the app's data container along with the app. There is nothing on a server to delete.
You can also reset individual things from inside the app:
- Settings → "Clear saved prayers" removes every bookmarked prayer.
- Settings → "Replay onboarding" resets the first-launch flag.
- Settings → Daily reminder toggle revokes the scheduled notification.
Children
Orisonly is a calm prayer companion and not directed to children under 13. It is not a replacement for clergy, counseling, medical care, or emergency support — the in-app safety banner makes this clear on relevant prayers.
Changes to this policy
If the privacy practices change, we'll update this page and the in-app About screen with the new effective date. Material changes (e.g., adding a backend) will be highlighted at the top.
