Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to common DapitLink questions.
Do I need an account?
No. DapitLink uses a generated or custom handle. You can set a custom handle in Settings when you need recognizable posts such as polls, shop listings, or public driver signals.
How does nearby messaging work?
DapitLink uses local nearby transport while the app is open, including Bluetooth, peer-to-peer Wi-Fi, local network access, and Bonjour discovery through Apple's Multipeer Connectivity APIs. When online data is allowed, some features may use online services for context such as weather, maps, or earthquakes.
What does Visible mean?
Visible means nearby DapitLink users can see your handle and room presence. Hidden lets you listen without advertising your presence, but sending messages or posting local content may turn visibility back on so other users know who sent it.
Is Help Ping an emergency service?
No. Help Ping sends a nearby signal and optional message to nearby DapitLink users. It does not call emergency services, notify authorities, or guarantee that anyone will receive the ping. For urgent danger, call local emergency services.
Can I mute help pings or users?
Yes. DapitLink includes safety controls to mute help pings, mute users for a limited time, hide content, flag inappropriate images, report content, and block handles.
Why does DapitLink ask for Bluetooth, local network, or location?
Bluetooth and local network permissions help find and exchange messages with nearby DapitLink users. Location is used while the app is open for approximate room, route, help ping, weather, earthquake, and transport context. You can revoke permissions in iOS Settings.
Why does DapitLink ask for microphone, speech recognition, camera, or photos?
Microphone and speech recognition are used only when you start dictation or record a voice update. Camera is used for QR scanning. Photos is used when you choose an image to share, attach to a poll, or attach to a shop post.
Can I use DapitLink for payments, booking, escrow, or official ride tracking?
No. DapitLink is for lightweight local coordination signals. It does not process payments, collect deposits, provide escrow, book rides, verify sellers, or provide official vehicle tracking.
How do I delete my data?
Delete the app from your device to remove DapitLink's local data container. Content already received by other nearby users may remain on their devices until it expires or is deleted by their app.
Where can I read the privacy policy?
The full policy is at /dapitlink/privacy. Short version: DapitLink has no account requirement, no ads, no analytics SDKs, and nearby content you choose to send is shared with nearby users.
