Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the questions we hear most often.
Do I need an account to use Calorya?
No. Calorya has no account system and no server. The first time you open the app, you'll go through a short onboarding (intro + 9 questions + summary) and you're in. Everything is stored locally on your device.
Does Calorya work without internet?
Yes — all logging, calorie math, and workout tracking work offline. The only things that need a connection are "Walk nearby" suggestions (which use Apple Maps) and fetching the sponsor list. Both fail gracefully if offline.
How does scale-photo weight logging work?
Tap "Log weight" in Profile, point your camera at the scale display, and Calorya reads the number using Apple's on-device Vision OCR. Only the resulting kilograms value is saved — the photo itself is discarded.
How does live workout tracking count calories?
When you tap "Track with camera", Calorya uses Apple's body-pose detection in memory to measure how much your skeleton actually moves during the session. The movement quantity is converted to kcal using your weight. Nothing is recorded and no frames are uploaded.
Why does Calorya ask for HealthKit, Camera, or Location?
All three are optional and only asked when you use a feature that needs them:
- HealthKit — to read steps/workouts/sleep/weight and write back the weight you log.
- Camera — for scale-photo weight logging and live workout tracking.
- Location — for "Walk nearby" suggestions via Apple Maps.
You can revoke any of these any time in iOS Settings → Privacy.
How do I edit or delete a meal or workout I already logged?
On the Home screen, swipe left on any meal or workout row to delete it. Tap the row to open and edit it.
I'd like to redo onboarding or change my goal.
Open Profile → tap "Re-edit onboarding". You can change your goal, gender, birthday, height, weight, activity level, pace, and target. The new values overwrite the old.
How do I back up my data, or move it to a new phone?
Calorya stores everything in the app's local SwiftData container. iCloud Backup will include it as part of the normal iPhone backup. When you restore a new iPhone from that backup, Calorya's data restores with it. If you weigh into Apple Health, weights also live in Apple Health independently.
How do I delete everything?
Uninstall Calorya. iOS removes the app's data container along with the app. Because there's no server, there is nothing else to delete.
What is the "SPONSORED" slot on the home screen?
One rotating slot on the home screen shows a partner Calorya has agreed to feature. It is clearly labelled SPONSORED, paid by the partner directly (not through the app), and tapping it opens the partner's website or App Store listing. Calorya does not share any of your data with sponsors and does not track per-user taps.
I want a refund.
App Store purchases are handled by Apple, not by us. Request a refund through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Where can I read the privacy policy?
The full policy is at /calorya/privacy. Short version: everything stays on your iPhone, no accounts, no analytics, no ads, no server.
